On November 24, the Asia Coatings Innovation Technology Pioneer Forum and the 2025 Asia Coatings Industry Pioneer Awards Ceremony, hosted by PCI, were held in Shanghai. PhiChem Corporation’s independently developed automotive interior product—Exciplex Skin-Feel Coating—received the 2025 "Asia Coatings Industry Technical Pioneer – Frontier Technology Special Award."

During the event, the company was invited to deliver a keynote speech titled "UV-Curable Skin-Feel Coatings: How Exciplex Technology Drives the Era of Automotive Interior Tactile Experience", sharing the coating’s performance advantages in enhancing driving comfort and interior quality, which attracted wide attention from industry peers.

The award-winning Exciplex Skin-Feel Coating is a high-performance innovative material developed for automotive interiors. It is based on exciplex UV curing technology and formulated as a specialized UV-curable coating. By leveraging differences in energy and penetration depth across UV wavelengths, it enables a "surface-instant curing and gradual internal curing" mechanism, delivering a fine skin-like texture and uniform matte finish. This provides a higher-end and more stable surface appearance for automotive interiors and represents a key process technology for premium interior materials.

As automobiles evolve from simple transportation tools into "second living spaces," in-cabin touch, visual quality, and comfort have become increasingly important. Against this trend, the exciplex skin-feel coating demonstrates strong value in creating a more comfortable and immersive interior experience. In long-life automotive applications, traditional PU skin-feel coatings often suffer from insufficient polymer chain stability, making it difficult to match the full vehicle lifecycle and leading to issues such as tackiness and powdering after several years of use. The new-generation exciplex coating addresses these challenges through an advanced curing process and molecular structure design, significantly improving durability from the material level and aligning coating lifetime with vehicle lifespan.

Compared with previous-generation exciplex coatings, this product further enhances key properties such as long-term water resistance and high-temperature water resistance, and has successfully passed Volkswagen’s TL226 interior testing standard. It not only provides reliable material support for automotive interior design but also promotes the industry’s transition toward premiumization, lightweight luxury aesthetics, and green manufacturing.

PhiChem Corporation has been deeply engaged in the automotive coatings sector for over 13 years, consistently driven by innovation and quality-first principles. The company has built a comprehensive product portfolio covering both interior and exterior coatings, including exciplex skin-feel coatings for interior parts, PVD coatings, dual-cure piano black topcoats, PU color paints, automotive exterior piano black coatings, electroplated silver finishes, and other specialty color coatings.

It has established strong partnerships with traditional OEMs such as Volkswagen and Chery, as well as numerous emerging EV brands, providing high-quality material solutions for multiple vehicle models. Looking ahead, PhiChem Corporation will continue to focus on automotive coatings, deepen its technological capabilities in interior coatings, expand R&D investment in exterior coatings, and further enrich its coating product portfolio, contributing sustained momentum to the development of the automotive industry.
